Description
The ASSR-12X X S eries c onsists of an AlG aAs infrar ed
light-emitting diode (LED) input stage optically coupled
to a high-v oltage output det ector circuit. The det ector
consists of a high-speed phot ovoltaic diode arra y and
driver circuitry to switch on/off t wo discrete high v olt-
age MOSFETs. The relay turns on (c ontact closes) with a
minimum input curr ent of 3mA thr ough the input LED .
The r elay turns off (c ontact opens) with an input v olt-
age of 0.8V or less.
The single channel c onfigurations, ASSR-1218 and
ASSR-1219, are equivalent to 1 Form A Elec tromechani-
cal Rela ys (EMR), and the dual channel c onfiguration,
ASSR-1228, is equivalent t o 2 F orm A EMR. They ar e
available in 4-pin SO, 6-pin DIP, 8-pin DIP and Gull Wing
Surface M ount f or DIP pack ages. ASSR-1219 enables
AC/DC and DC- only output c onnections. F or DC- only
connection, the output curr ent, Io , incr eases t o 0.4A
and the on-resistance, R(ON) reduces to 2.5.

Application Information
On-Resistance and Derating Curves
The Output On-Resistanc e, R (ON), specified in this data
sheet, is the resistance measured across the output con-
tact when a pulse curr ent signal (lo=200mA) is applied
to the output pins . The use of a pulsed sig nal (≤30ms)
implies that each junc tion t emperature is equal t o the
ambient and case t emperatures. The steady-state resis-
tance, Rss, on the other hand , is the value of r esistance
measured across the output contact when a DC curr ent
signal is applied t o the output pins f or a duration suf-
ficient to reach thermal equilibrium. Rss includes the ef-
fects of the temperature rise in the device.
Figure 1, 2, 3 and 4 specify the maximum a verage out-
put current allowable for a g iven ambient t emperature.
The maximum allowable output current and power dis-
sipation ar e r elated b y the expr ession Rss = P o(max)/
(lo(max))2 fr om which Rss can be calculat ed. Sta ying
within the saf e area assures that the st eady state MOS-
FET junction temperature remains less than 125 °C.
